We were away very early this morning leaving our B&B by 8:45am. It was just striking 9am as we approached St. Stephan's church heading north through town..
We passed the sign to the recent history museum, Nostalgie, which on the outside at least looks similar to Bygones in Torquay.
The road was very busy until we turned off under the dual carriageway and walked beside the stop bank. There is a photograph taken looking back at the dual carriageway bridge over the Elbe.
We passed one of the many poles holding signs for the Elberadweg but if you look carefully this one is slightly different. It has an extra bit of wood at the top. A line on it marks the water level in the June floods!
The people of the village of Haemerten have built a very nice rest area for the Elberadweg with a table and seats. Whilst I was photographing it, Shiel used the opportunity to take off her sweater. (I should mention some people found the cooler morning today perfect for walking whilst others considered it a little too cool).
Quite a few of the houses in the village had storks in nests on their roofs and one house appeared to have its chimmney completely blocked by a nest.
The road to Storkau was between apple trees but after Storkau the road turned off leaving the Elbe cycle track running beside a very rutted unsealed farm road used by horse riders. There was more up and down hill than we've had for a while and quite a few cyclists got off their bikes to walk.
Arneburg was smaller and older than expected and I got a nice photograph of a Fachwerk house in the town centre with a vey good bronze work in front of it. We took liquid refreshment in Arneburg.
We arrived at Reiterhof & Pension Trumpf in Hohenberg-Krusemark at about 3:15pm, a walk of 26km in 6.5 hours. 4km/hr including stops for refreshments and foot powdering is not a bad rate, at least not for us. The cooler weather makes a lot of difference.
I picked this pension as I thought Shiel might like to see the horses. I asked if we could go look at them and the owner said we could and gave me directions. We found most of the horses in stables and we were able to chat to them and take photographs. A nice end to the day. We've seen lots of horses over the last few days.
One thing I should mention is that whilst concentrating on the horses I forgot about checking if H-K has any restaurants. Luckily it has one.
However it is closed on Tuesdays! We did manage to get crisps, peanuts a couple of sticks of salami and, last but not least, a bottle of wine at a very small local shop just before it closed.
